Before building Mopie, we read about 500 Google Play reviews of 14 duplicate-finder and storage-cleaner apps to learn what frustrates people. Here's what we found, and how we designed Mopie around it.
Study by FourC Tech, the maker of Mopie · 2026
Key findings: of 82 complaints, 33% said the app didn't find duplicates (including audio and video), 22% were about paywalls and tight free limits, 15% about slow scanning and deleting, and 12% about not scanning both phone storage and the SD card. Smaller groups covered poor support (7%), wrong or fake deletes (6%) and payment problems (2%).

On 26 October 2026 we opened the upgrade screens of 9 of the apps in the study and recorded every plan and price. Here's what we saw:
| What we saw | Apps (of 9) |
|---|---|
| Weekly subscriptions, from 26.99 to 36.99 AED a week (about 117–160 AED a month) | 2 |
| Free trials that turn into a paid plan automatically (3 to 7 days), one with the trial switch already turned on | 3 |
| Ads in the free version | At least 6 |
| Core scanning features locked behind payment: SD card scanning, background scanning, similar photos or video cleaning | 5 |
| Storage warnings such as "Not enough storage" shown on the paywall | 2 |
| A one-time lifetime option (12.99 to 144.99 AED) | At least 5 |
Mopie's pricing, for comparison: no weekly plans, no free trials that renew on their own, no ads, and SD card scanning is free. Mopie Pro is 8.45 AED a month, 67.60 AED a year (about 5.63 AED a month), or 87.75 AED once for lifetime access.
We built Mopie to fix these problems. Where Mopie isn't perfect yet, we say so.
Mopie compares what's inside each file, not file names or dates, so a renamed or re-saved copy is still caught. It checks photos, videos, music, documents and archives. Near-identical photos and videos, which aren't exact copies, have their own tools: Similar photos (keeps the Best Shot) and Similar videos (keeps the Best Take).
Free, without limits: scanning (as often as you like), reviewing everything Mopie finds, restoring from Trash, and the app manager. You always see exactly what's taking up space before paying anything. No ads, ever.
Free cleaning up to 1 GB. Mopie Pro removes the limit: 8.45 AED a month, 67.60 AED a year, or 87.75 AED once for lifetime access.
To be upfront: Mopie has a cleaning limit for free users too. The difference is that nothing else is locked: you can see and decide everything for free.
The first scan reads every file so that duplicates are matched by content, which takes time on a full phone. On our own 230 GB test phone it took 20–30 minutes; on a device with about 800,000 files it took around 1.5 hours. After that, Mopie remembers what it has seen, and rescans take about 20–40 seconds on that same phone, faster with the app open.
You can keep using your phone during the first scan, follow progress in a notification, and cancel at any time without losing your selection.
Mopie scans both internal storage and SD cards in the same scan.

Mopie never deletes automatically. The original of each duplicate set and the Best Shot of each similar set are locked unless you unlock them. Every delete shows the number of files and the space freed before you confirm. On Android 11 and later, files go to Trash and can be restored for free, and Mopie tells you up front if a file can't go to Trash.
All purchases go through Google Play. A one-time Lifetime option means no subscription to manage, and optional Google sign-in lets you keep Pro on a new phone.
